Welcome to Aspatria Town Councils page on Aspatria`s Voice this is a website operated for
the benefit of the residents of Aspatria and the surrounding area by a representative of the
council. The site contains lots of information about the activities of the Town Council and
its Councillors. It also gives you the opportunity to ask questions or find out information
informally and to enter into discussions on topics that are of interest or concern.

We hope you enjoy your visit to the site and don’t be afraid to leave a message.

Easter as most of you will know has been particularly early this year and the clocks
have now gone forward as we look forward to spring. The Council has a lot of work in the
next few months . We have to balance the accounts and submit them to the internal
and external auditor. Grasscutting starts and the beds and tubs will be replanted for summer.
The Annual Town Meeting and Annual Town Council meeting take place on the 20th May
when a Mayor is elected.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who support the Mayors Charity
particularly those who helped at the Coffee Morning in January and the recent Race Night.
I hope to make the presentation of the cheque for the Resources Room at West Street
Practice at the April meeting.

Christmas Lights

Aspatria is well known for its display of Christmas Lights not only the ones the council
operates on houses or commercial properties by kind permission of the owners but the
two Christmas trees and those which householders and businesses display themselves.

The cost of Christmas lighting increases year on year, if it is not new strings of lights
it is new lights for the trees, then the cost of ensuring each string is checked by a
qualified electrician each year when replacement bulbs are fitted. We also pay
for the electricity residents have to pay to illuminate the strings and the two trees.

The Town Council runs a free draw to encourage residents to display lights in their
windows. We are fortunate that Sealy and many other businesses (including the Charity
Shop)in the town make donations that contributes toward the cost of the draw
and some of the other expenses in connection with Aspatria’s Christmas Lights.

We are very fortunate to have our lights and I thank you all for your support.

By now most of Aspatria`s residents will have had one of our newsletters through their letter boxes,
We are proud to have been able to get a newsletter out to everyone and will hopefully
manage to get a new newsletter out every 3 months. We need your help in achieving
this by keeping your town council informed of events that are happening in and
around Aspatria, this helps us bring you an on going calendar of events, whilst advertising
your event at the same time.

We are now collecting news stories for our next Aspatria Town Council Newsletter, if you would
like to add something in our Newsletter, please email the Editor by clicking on the email link below.

If any of our readers have joined Aspatrias-Voice forum, you will have noticed a
History of Aspatria and its folk section, this was brought about by someone
that is in America researching their family tree in Aspatria. They came across
Aspatrias-Voice on a search engine and joined the forum, then they asked for
this section as a means of sharing their family history and the history of people
from Aspatria with unknown relations in far off lands. I think this would also
be an excellent opportunity for people to share old photos of the people
and the area of Aspatria.

If you have any old photos your willing to share or you think it would be nice
to have a link to a page of old pictures of Aspatria on this site, please
send them to Janice Barker by clicking the email link below.
Every photo I receive I will give a credit and thank you too next to
the picture.

that are not businesses and are non profit making.
